The First Day of School!
In Mrs. Shively Smith's class
The first day of school is a wonderful time, but it also can be a little scary. Here are a few things you may want to discuss with your child to make things a little easier.
- There will be extra adults helping on the first day. We will encourage parents to leave as this makes it easier for the children to adjust to school.
- There will be lots of time to play on the first day.
- There will be time to ask a question or tell us about a worry.
- Adults will help everyone get through the lunch line. If your child is bringing a cold lunch and needs to purchase milk at lunch time, please let me know. At the beginning of the year, children will often get confused as to ordering milk for snack time and then figuring out if they need additional milk at lunch.
- We will have two snack times. We will have milk with our morning snack. We encourage children to drink most or all of their milk, but they are never forced to finish. If a child does not like the snack we are offering, s/he does not have to finish it or even take the snack. We will not, however, be searching through the snacks to see what your child would like.
- We will do our best to make the day as comfortable and fun as possible.
- Adults will make sure everyone gets on the right bus or is walked safely to the office.
